I ran into a strange issue today when I realized that I needed a real IIS 6 on my local Windows XP SP3 development environment.
I went through the usual Add Windows Component install as this dialog came up:
Wait a minute... Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD? I never had that CD, I just ran the SP3 install bootstrapper as Microsoft recommends. Anyway I managed to find it on Microsoft Download as an iso-file, mounted it and... Not accepted. Actually there is no i386 folder on this CD.
So, in my case the solution was simple: Just click browse and point it to the C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder.
After a while the installer will ask for the original Windows XP CD. Feed it with that and there you go, IIS installed.
It seems I was lucky not to have more problems than this and didn't have to try resolutions like this KB article. Just had to figure out that Service Pack 3 CD = C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386.
Good tip peter. Saved me a load of trouble
